October has been a very busy month once again here in Dyffryn yr Enfys. Dosbarthiadau Melynllyn, Dulyn, and Geirionydd have enjoyed valuable cricket sessions with Joe from Cricket Wales. It was a pleasure to receive praise from Joe for the positive attitude and effort shown by the children.

In addition, Tal y Bont Chapel was full during our recent Thanksgiving Service, reflecting the strong support from the community. A big thank you to everyone for their ongoing support, and a huge thank you to the children for giving their best in every activity.

We look forward to more events and opportunities to continue nurturing the spirit of community and the effort to learn and grow together.

Dosbarth Crafnant

Our new nursery children have settled in well. Recently, we had the chance to go for a walk to look for signs of Autumn, and the children enjoyed collecting lots of colourful leaves and plenty of berries in the lovely weather.

We also had a special visitor – Nel the dog! As part of their “Big Red Bath” theme, the children have been learning about pets, and they loved giving Nel treats and learning how to care for her properly.

Dosbarth Melynllyn

The children have been busy learning and presenting rules for effective learning. As part of the activity, they took funny pictures of themselves to help remember the rules – listen carefully, look at the teacher, etc.

They have also been learning about caring for our planet, focusing on issues like carefully collecting litter and raising awareness about the environment.

Dosbarth Dulyn

The children have been learning how to read maps during their Physical Education sessions, as well as working with partners to develop teamwork and navigation skills.

They also celebrated Shwmae Sumae Day by encouraging each other to start every conversation in Welsh – a great step toward boosting confidence and language skills.

Dosbarth Geirionydd

The children have been investigating the effects of drinks on teeth through a practical experiment – placing eggs in different types of drinks to observe the results over time.

During the month, PC Dylan visited the class to talk about online safety, reinforcing an important message for children who are using the internet more frequently.

Additionally, the Welsh Crew were very active on Shwmae Sumae Day, going around the school encouraging everyone to start their conversations in Welsh. It was wonderful to see the whole school taking part and promoting the language in a positive and natural way.

Other News – Remembering the Dolgarrog Disaster

Across the school, the children have been learning about the Dolgarrog Dam Disaster, marking 100 years since this tragic event.

A range of meaningful activities were held:

Dosbarth Geirionydd

The children created memorial lanterns to honour those who lost their lives. Some pupils will also take part in a special parade on 2nd November as part of the Remember Dolgarrog 100 event.

Dosbarth Dulyn and Geirionydd

The children visited an exhibition of photographs showing significant people in the community today and 100 years ago. Dulyn Class also painted chrysanthemums on memorial stones to be placed in the community on 2nd November.

The Ciw Cymraeg

The Criw had a unique opportunity to speak with the BBC about the historic event and share how the disaster has had a lasting impact on the community.

These activities have been valuable learning experiences, encouraging empathy, remembrance, and respect as well as raising awareness of local history.
